The holiday of our Lives, So Far (contd…from London)
Day 9 Saturday, June 26, 2004
The earliest start of the holiday. Head to Gatwick at 4a.m. and arrived in Dublin airport (Overcast, no surprise) to see Darryl there to pick us. We drove home where Jean and Megan were waiting for us. After a huge Irish breakfast, we drove to the Guinness Storehouse, which was overflowing with tourists. A great place to have seen and that Sky Bar at the Storehouse (where we all get 1 free pint of Guinness) was GRAND. It's where I had my first Guinness and Megan had her first Coca Cola. I took a liking to it and became water for the rest of the trip. Later that evening the sun was out and Darryl had a bar-be-que for all of us in his back yard.
Day 10 Sunday, June 27, 2004
Drove up to Malahide Castle and took a tour of the place. The castle lawns were our first sight of 40 shades of green. Then headed to the city to do a bit of site seeing. We took the hop-on hop-off bus and did all our souvenir shopping at Carroll's for the guys back home and in Dubai. Then walked to Temple Bar and was amazed to see how many pubs were on that street. We got into Temple Bar and had a pint (and kept going out for a smoke, U cant smoke in places of work in Ireland, so u go OUT). They serve over 3000 pints of Guinness a day, easily!!!. Headed back home and left for an early Italian dinner with some great wine.
Day 11 Monday, June 28, 2004
Got to Heuston train Station and headed to Limerick. Derek picked us up and went straight to Bunratty Castle. 3 of us headed to Dirty Nellie's next door for a pint before we entered the castle. We stayed and Derek and Elaine house that day and met the entire Robinson family that evening at Fennessey's over a ganzy load of beers.
Day 12 Tuesday, June 29, 2004
Mr. Joe Robinson enters the scene. He picked us from Derek's house (after and Irish breakfast) and boy, did we do a few kms that day. We headed to Lanich to the tip of the Atlantic (must have been 8-10 degrees) and then to a place we will never forget - The Cliff's of Moher. If u hasn't seen it, see it. It's a postcard to say the least. Simply a sight to see in your lifetime. Left the Cliffs and headed to Doolin where we had a great night to all the Irish music. That night, WE GOT PISSED.
Day 13Wednesday, June 30, 2004
After the breakfast at the B&B we headed to Kilcullen via the Alwee Caves. The drive from Alwee Caves to Kilcullen, which usually takes 2 hrs, took over 6 hrs. No explanations given. Got to the pub to catch the Holland - Portugal semi final of the Euro 2004 and then slept like babies after 3 cap-full Irish coffee.
Day 14 Thursday, July 1, 2004
Head to Dublin to Darryl & Jean's place. Was a lovely evening with all of sitting over beers and laughs. It was our last night in Dublin and our last day of the holiday. We did not want it to end but I guess it had to. Darryl (man, he's a good cook) made us a Thai meal and we sat over a few beers and caught up on the past. Everyone was in a great mood and left in high spirits. I never thought this holiday would work. I am so damn glad we made it work because we deserved it. I for one am glad I made the holiday with Sean with whom I have shared my best memories in college with & have lived with for the past 2 years. I had a goal in the beginning of the year to make this holiday. I did it!!!! We did it!!!!
