Bren and Kate's travels!
Hey Peeps!
We were in Xi'an for Tues and Wed which is supposed to be one of the greatest cities in China. When we arrived they were having a sand storm which was quite interesting. On Tues afternoon we went to the biggest mosque in China which was actually quite small! There were loads of markets and we got an english version of Majjong which we are still figuring out how to play. Although i'm not impressed because it made my whole suitcase stink and now my clothes smell like old must! We ate McDonalds pretty much all day because we are kind of sick of chinese food.
On Wednesday we went to the Terricotta Warriors which was really good. There is actually only one warrior that is still whole, with no damage and there is still loads of work to be done. At the mo there at 8000. Pit 1 is by far the most interesting and you could stand there all day just staring at it. There was a section in which they are litterally pieces them back together which has taken years to do. We also met the farmer who discovered them. He is 83 years old and a grumpy git! We got him to sign our book. He didn't look partically happy but I guess he has been sat there since it opened and he didn't even get any money for discovering it.
That evening we got another overnight train to Beijing which wasn't that enjoyable as we shared with someone who snored like a beast! The train was really nice though and we all had televions at the end of our beds. The train was for 12 hours and then 12 of us got in a mini van meant for no more than 8 people with all of our suitcases. It was pretty amusing when the driver got pulled over by the police and was given a ticket. Not too sure what for but we could pretty much guess!
Today we went to the great wall which has been by far the hightlight. We walked about 8 miles along it and it was hard work, a lot harder than we had imagined. You actually are climbing up and down mountains and for most of it, it is just rubble and stones placed as stairs. Where there are stairs they are about a foot and a half tall to each one. It is actually quite dangerous and it wouldn't be open at home. The views were unbelievable. They really don't look real. We are now back at the hotel and going out for a duck dinner which is cooked traditionally on a wood fire. You won't be able to do this for long because they are banning them because of the pollution.
The sun tan isn't really coming along because the smog blocks the sun!
Hope everything is good, Big hugs and kisses the the babies/kids - read our journals to them!
