Today we booked an all day tour around Santorini to see the main sites and to hear the history of the island. We were picked up by a coach and taken to the port where we jumped on a sailing boat out to the burnt island. Here we got off the boat and trekked up to the top of the volcano were we learnt how the three islands today were all joined as one like a ring before the volcano erupted and split them up. The volcano we were standing on was active and as we walked around the top there were parts where you could see smoke coming out and when you dug a hole the temperature was hot enough to boil an egg in for 10mins, crazy!
After the volcano trekking we then jumped back on the boat which took us to the natural springs off the burnt island where we jumped in the water and swam to shore feeling the water temp heat up and where the colour of the water then turned to brown due to the sulphur. Once on shore we all sat around rubbing the mud into our bodies which is suppose to be really good and cleansing for the skin. After the hot springs we were dropped of at Thirasia island for lunch and another swim before boarding the boat and heading to Oia for the view of the sunset.
Oia is one pretty town with all the little streets and white buildings that lead through to these windmills where you gather to watch one of the best sunsets in the world! This place got so busy with everyone waiting for the sun to set, there was even a dog there that looked like he owned the place barking at people and sitting on the best part of the wall, he was definitely the boss! When the sun eventually set over the ocean it was so picturesque and so amazing, it was well worth the wait, so so beautiful!
