Well this tour was with Jen, from Alice Springs to Adelaide. Another early start again :/ bad times! This time waiting for someone for an hour that wasn't actually in Alice Springs :/ We later found out she was flying into Uluru. But a ho.. Waiting around for an hour when we could of been in bed for an hour longer :P Well it wouldn't of worked like that, but hey.
The first day saw the bus driving over 800km + small/bigish walk, so very busy day, with a late night on the cards. First stop in this leg was a walk through Kings Canyon, oh and also up 'Heart-attack hill' :/ and believe me that was a killer!!! It might not look it in the pictures. But jeez louis it killed all of us :/ We got told its Sand Rock, just like Uluru is, and it obsorbs all the rainwater, which gets channeled into pools of undergroud water holes, some of these waterholes are visiable in someparts of the canyon. We headed of for our accomodation at Uluru.
The next day we took a look and a walk round Uluru, this been a VERY sacrid site for the aboriginal people, mainly women. So they don't permit people climbing on Uluru, but its still acceptable (for now). We don't agree with people walking over it if its sacrid, its disrespectful of people walking on it. So we choose the 9.4km (5.5miles) walk around the base of Uluru. This was interesting, as around the walk there were spots that you couldn't photograph, as its a place where there do there ceremonies. We also seen sunset over Uluru with Champagnee and Canopies.
The next day we got up early for sunrise over Uluru, and headed for Coober Pedy, the heart of Australia's Opal Mining (and of the world). With a large proportion of the town living underground in there old mined out homes. These were so cool. As there was probably once upon a time mining here, and lived on site. Nowadays they get machinary in to carve out there own new homes in the rock. There really cool as they stay at a constant 22 Degree's C All year round, No Noise, No Light! Perfect!! You turn of the lights and the place is Pitch Black! And we were to stay in an underground Hostel for the night. We also on this leg of the trip went through into South australia over the Northen Territory border. We also stopped of briefly at a Salt lake, almost completely dried out, but there'd been alot of rain so it had filled up again.
I'm sure i've confused the days here :/ But this was a 6 day trip, 6days/5 nights.. And i'm sure i'm ahead of myself already..
Well anyway it was onto Yurrambulla Caves where we took a small hike into the rocky terrain to go to a small aboriginal rock art display, and this was another interesting spot for us, as we could see even more differences in the way the aboriginals from different tribes communicated. We ended up stopping at quorn for 2 nights in a lovely Mill Hotel. Wilapena Pound was the next stop for a 2 hour walk upto Mount Ohlssen Bagge for a beautiful view of this interesting Flinders Ranges. This was one of Jen's top 10 places. Although very very very cold. It was nice! And it was our 1st sight of the SEA!!!! And signal again on the Mobiles :D Oh Oh Oh!! We had some awesome food at Quorn. We had a buffet of Ozzies finest meats, some Kangaroo, Emu or Camel!! And also the day before the best Chilli Beef wraps EVER!!
We also had a rather chillaxed walk through the flinders rangers, and we were both knackered from all these walks :/ We skipped the look-out bit as there was yet more stairs.. Seen some crazy hollow trees, walking sticks, and kangaroo's, with another little walk, spotting the rare yellow footed rock wallabe. They were very well camoflauged, and very quick once spotted!! After this (well the next day) it was wine tasting time! And jeez louis Ozzy wines are meant to be world renowned, but to me they taste like dog shiiiite! :/ Bad times.. Gimme them cheapo bottles of wine any day over these.. It was nice to taste the differences with there different aroma's and tastes :/ But they were Yuk and to dry!
