Day 21
We drove the RV down to the Visitor Centre this morning to catch a shuttle up to the Sherman Tree as we were due to leave as soon as we had seen it. When you get to the trail head you have to walk down about 300 feet of elevation to the base of the General Sherman. As you walk down the trail it tells you on the ground how far up the tree you are which is quite mad. When we got to the bottom and you see the tree it is MASSIVE! This tree is 375 feet tall and has the most volume of timber in the world but it is not the oldest or the tallest tree in the forest. We made our way back up the path and down to the RV where we did some laundry and had some lunch before leaving for Yosemite. The journey is not too long but drops down to Fresno and then steadily gains altitude again all the way there, bit like a giant rollercoaster really. Driving into the Yosemite Valley is awesome and we all really enjoyed our journey to the North Pines campsite which was right by a river (The Merced). We had stocked up with provisions in a little town called Coarsegold so we had a fine feast of a barbecue for dinner. We sat outside the RV until quite late and had a campfire in the fire-pit with loads of other campers who were doing the same thing – it was really cool. Tomorrow we are planning to see the Yosemite Falls and do some hiking.
