Day 2
We got up and had a full on eat as much as you like breakfast. Bacon, egg, sausage, French toast, cereal, fruit and Danish pastries.
We then went for a walk along the sea front to kill some time before our shuttle arrived at noon to take us to the RV pickup point.
Our shuttle arrived, and we met a German family who were going to spend two weeks touring around California, they had been before and were telling us all the good places to go. Chris was a bit nervous in the bus about what to expect and Mum and I were nervous for him too, especially when we turned up and saw how big our RV was!
Chris and mum had to spend about an hour going over everything they needed to know about the RV, and checking it for damage which I helped to find as well. One of the owners had a lovely ginger cat, and they let me feed it treats. Once all the paperwork was signed, they gave us details of how to get to the supermarket, and we were on our way. Mum and Chris couldn't pay for the shopping, as the card was rejected, which wasn't a good start, but once we were sorted, we started to make our way to our first destination, Big Sur. We started off on the main Highway 101, it was a big motorway and very busy as it was rush hour for those coming out of San Francisco, then after reaching Monterey, we ended up on the Pacific Coast Highway. This is the original coast route from San Francisco to Los Angeles and winds along the tops of the cliffs, with a sheer drop at one side. Mum was freaking out, and I got to sit in the front of the RV. Chris was very nervous, but did a great job driving.
We got to our destination, Big Sur Campground, which was right in the forest and really nice. It was quite late. Chris sorted out the outside, and got us linked up to water and electric, while Mum unpacked all of our suitcases. We then put all of our shopping away and familiarised ourselves with the inside of the RV.
We had a cooked chicken, which we picked up from the supermarket with salad for dinner. Mum had bought a huge tub of coleslaw, and it was horrible. It was late so we all went to bed.
I loved it as I got to sleep in my own cab at the opposite end of the RV to Mum and Chris, above the driving area.
