heyyy everyone finally managed to get on the internet thats works for long enough to update you on what i have been doing so far! everytime i have tried there has been power cuts in the whole town.
Tanzania is an amazing country, its so chilled out here and everyone is really friendly. the camp where i am living is just outside moshi and about 10 min walk to the school that we are working in. when we walk to and from school everyday we meet children on the way who walk with us. they are so cute and friendly and just love to walk down the road holding your hand. in school we are building a canteen and at the moment we are plastering the walls. at first i thought i what the hell am i doing here when they showed me what to do... however now i must say im actually really enjoying it. we work from 9 until 12 then go home for dinner and then again from 2 until 4 in the afternoon however as this is Africa it means we set off to work at 9 and are back home for 12! all tthe rest of the time is ours to do what we want, so there is lots of relaxing happening whcih im very happy about. our camp is over the road from a hotel which has a pool and we are allowed to use that so im topping up my tan nicely to come back to all your whities at home in the cold lol
for the last week we have been to another camp in the mountains nearer to kili... here we have experienced propper afrcian village life. we cooked traditional food and dance with the mamas which was so funny. the food was horrible i couldnt eat it so made one of the girls eat it as we thought it would be rude to leave it... turns out they didnt mind but we only found out afterwards lol. in this village we also worked at a school, doing many different things. a group of us taught english most of the week which gave you a real buzz when the children actually learnt things from you. this is the school that i gave the schools things to that i brought over with me. im also buying this school text books with the money i raised as in most classes they dont even have enough for the children to share between 3. so the money is definatly going to be well spent on helping the children learn. so thank you everyone for that :D
i feel like im at home here already, all the staff that work with us are so friendly. there is 10 volunteers including me so its only a small group of us but everyone is lovely and gets on well so its really good fun! today is one of the girls birthdays so we are going out tonight to celebrate. the bar that we go to is in a field but is propperly set up its so crazy, then we are goin to a bar/club that they all love so im looking forward to experiencing that! im going on safari on monday for 3 days which i cant wait for :D but im also going to go on safari for another 5 days now which i hadnt planned to do but whilst in Tanzania why not ey! everyone keeps saying how amazing Zanzibar, we are all looking forward to it so much we have decided to go a few days earlier so now i have just under 2 weeks there at the end just before i come home!
hope i have not bored you all to much i am not very good at this explaining typing stuff... but im having a fab time, i love africa and the poeple :D
hope everyone is well at home and keep in touch on here of facebook
lots of love
