Brenton Kovacs's Travels
17/12/2010
Today is a big day. We are having a very expensive afternoon tea at the Burj Al Arab. The only so called 7 star hotel in the world.
The security is very tight and you cannot get onto the island unless you have a booking. Once inside the hotel we are amazed. Pictures cannot really capture the amount of detail throughout the building. Afternoon tea is served on the 27th floor in the Sky View bar. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, the view and a couple who were sitting next to us from the UK.
i did find it hard to justify the $120 each, but its a once in a lifetime experience.

After visiting the Burjuman mall(nothing special here), we headed back to the hotel to wait for our tour guide. We are off into the desert for some 4 wheel driving followed by a barbecue banquet and some entertainment.
After a 40 minute drive we arrive at the start of many sand dunes. Its not long before we are getting thrown around in the 4wd, as our driver has no fear. Very exciting!
After 30 minutes of sand dune bashing we arrive at a Bedouin style camp site where we are treated to some fire breathing and belly dancing. The food was great and plentiful. Sitting out in the desert on a beautiful clear sky night, with some really funky arab music playing was a highlight i wont forget in a hurry. Meet some people all the way from Denmark, and joined them at there table for the night.
Next point of interest is Abu Dhabi

Terry Wow - very jealous, that camp in the desert looks like it would have been great! Awesome photos too, esp the night shots in your last update.Sounds like you guys are having fun, spare a thought for the rest of us trapped at home subject to the drudgery of Christmas. :-)As a side note - email updates don't seem to work when I subscribe to your trip - can you add me Alan?
Adrya Loved reading your entry Brenton - I read it out to David and it brought back some good memories of travelling is Asia. Still it does not compare to $240 afternoon tea on the 27th floor of the Bur Al Arab. Sounds fantastic!
Adrya the hotel looks like a glowing insect at night!
Adrya Very pretty - must have been such a relaxing place - warm and breezy it looks - glad to see you kicking up your heels.
Adrya the Bedouin camp looks very modern - where are the camels?
Adrya David said that the bird on your shoulder was a falcon and wondered if the Bedouin's were falconing when you were there? You look great Alan!
Adrya You are certainly in the desert - lots of sand. Was the car air conditioned?
Adrya Good shot!
Adrya Looks very civilised.
