After some magical scenery of Glacier national park we stop at Avalanche in the national park. The last 12 miles of the Sun road is still closed, so Avalanche is as far as we can drive. Gerry waits in the car while i go for a 9k round trip hike to Avalanche Lake. Beautiful walk through dense cedar forest and then the huge lake where the noise form the water falls from the surrounding mountain cliffs is deafening. Well the rain persists as we make our way to the top if Montana near the Canadian border to visit Glacier National Park. There is no let up form the rain, and as we arrive at Kalispell its still raining. Looks like the weather will improve tomorrow, so we stay in Kalispell for the night. No pictures because of the weather

The drive up to Bonners Ferry is long. The scenery is nothing exciting. Once again we encounter thunderstorms and rain. The tent i have is water resistant, but the continual rain keeps me up for some time. Will be glad to see blue sky

So here we are in Washington state for the night. We just crossed over the Colombia River from Oregon. The views are better from this side of the border, but unfortunately the weather is against us. Its come up cloudy, lots of thunder and rain. Not a good night to be in a tent. The drive up here was pretty scenic with some nice views of Hood Mountain. Have to hope the weather improves

Today its a drive further north into Oregon to see the Painted Hills. These are very colourful gold and brown clay hills. Next we stop in to visit a friend of Gerry's in a town called Bend. They live in a nice 2 storey house on 5 acres. Both are in the 70's. We stay the night here and enjoy a superb dinner and dessert.
