Brenton Kovacs's Travels
15th
More driving through the desert till we get to Bikanar. Its a pretty rough looking place. The drive was pretty uneventful today. The Palace hotel where we are staying, has a tent city along both sides of the road, so it doesnt look very good for a walk anywhere tonight. The Palace must have be grand in its day, but with lack of maintenance its a shadow of its former glory.
We are kept awake by barking dogs, trains and their continually blasting horns. Sleep comes after midnight when peace settles.

Drive to Jaisalmer is going to be 320ks. Before we depart a guide gives us a tour the Palace. The building is nice, but the gardens are impressive. The next tour is of the Fort. Same again nice building with lots of history. Wont go into any details, will get boring
The drive has its good parts and its bad parts. Lunch is in a government run roadhouse so we are guaranteed quality food without high price or the risk of food poisoning. All the food from them has been great
The only scary moment today is having a huge truck coming straight towards us as he was on his mobile. Luck for us our driver took evasive action and so did the truck at the very last second.
Tonights hotel is great. We are here for 2 nights. It is called the Lalgarh Fort and Palace. The whole of Jaisalmer is built of yellow stone, so this town looks like it is made of gold. Very impressive. The rooftop view from the hotel is great and we sit and watch the sunset. Yes this is the first time we have seen the sun for most of the week. This morning the fog was so thick you could not see 20 metres.
So we settle in, have tea and will try and get some sleep sometime before midnight.
