well it turns out that our plans changed drastically since the last entry! This was for many reasons, but mainly because craig has met a nice ozzy girl and after much discussion it was decided that we would head for perth crossing the famous nullabor desert!
Taking our van this kinda distance, is like getting your 90 year old nan to run the london marathon (with just as many leaks), with this in mind we prepared for the max before leaving civilisation!
so the journey goes something like this, Adelaide to port piere, nothing much to say there, was ment to have some fruit picking here but that never transpired, after a 2 day stop there we was off again to port lincoln, here we had a swim in the sea not seeing the shark warning signs, luckily we were in a swimming enclosure however it then turns out that this wasnt shark proof another sign revealed! so from there we went to ceduna, this is the start of the nullabor, we made a 4 am start that morning in the hope to be across by 10pm that nyt! the distace was a little further than anticipated and we made many stops for the sights and fuel! fuel prices reached $1.90 thats almost 80p a litre!!!!!! we finaly made it to esperece at around 4am the next morning having spent the last 24hrs on the road we were exhausted and in need of some sleep! we stoped in esperence for 6 days, it was a nice place with scenic views and cheapish accomodation! this is where we had our first spot of bother with the van! we went out to a national park and on the way back broke down just as it was getting dark, no worries the gals gave us a tow back, bit dodgy but desperate times call for desperate measures. after recieving some grief from the campsite owner for campingout the front of his campsite an nipping in to use the facilities without paying, we got some sleep. the next day we found out that our alternater wasnt charging and that the battery had run flat! oil had leaked in the alternater, making it u/s there was also some dodgy wiring going on where there had been a bodge job done previously!! parts alone set us back $600 and not having the rite tools for the job a local guy sorted it for $150, not bad considering the hassle that it saved us!
we also made it into the local newspaper, not just any page but front page stuff!!! oh yes the english boys done it again!! completely random and unrelated to our travels but there we was, front page of the Esperence Express!!!
Next stop was albony, we stoped at the top of a hill there near some war memorials a little spokey for the girls who slept elswhere that night! on this trip we ran outa fuel and the girls again had to tow us some 100k. 100k on 5 litres is good mpg! from there we went to margeret river, more problems occured on this trip, not us for a change thothe girls hit a wallabie just on night fall again and then found that there van wouldnt restart, after a bump start we found that their alternater wasnt charging, nothing we could do about it in the midde of nowhere, straight to margeret river, next morning we found a blown fuse and a loose alternater, the tension bolt had snapped, lukily for them, we were better prepared and had some fellow travellers that we had met before near by(lochlan and his gal lisa) we went to a national park and fixed them right up, not an easy taskbut we done it, wich was a relief as they had no money atall! a few nights there and we hit the road for perth, we stoped in a rest place for a night and now were finaly here.
this morning craig narrowly missed a snake bite, luckily he didnt strike, but he was damn close, dont know what snake he was but it was approx 3ft long!
so thats about it from us! were now looking for work and should be around here for approx 3 months!!
