After a four and a bit hour journey to Ranthambore we arrive at our hotel! This is the tiger kingdom. The hotel is beautiful... no lift and 6 flights of stairs later we get into our room, quickly try to figure out the air con and get straight out of there! If it wasn't for the free wifi I think it would be a -1*
Going for a stroll is definitely the best idea to kill some time before Gaurav comes back to meet us for dinner. Out the hotel and onto the dusty streets ahead of us, we set off. Half an hour later we have passed so many cows, dogs, curious locals and shanti shacks posing mainly as shops and barbers. Each shop sells pretty much the same- chewing tobacco, mouthfreshener, a selection of Bombay mixes and a warm fridge full of warm drinks! The barbers all love brad and are waving their cut throats around and stroking their chins. I'm wondering how long it's going to be before he's enticed in and having a local scalping! Needless to say this isn't the shopping capital of Rajisthan so back on our dusty path to the hotel we go.
Gaurav meets us in the lobby at 6. I'm quite excited thinking he's going to take us out of faulty towers for the night. The thing about Gaurav, (much to brads disapproval) is that he knows my style. Every restaurant he has taken us to is decent, clean, busy, upmarket, fresh and of course overpriced!! So tonight of all nights, me as ever, expecting too much, he let's me down. There's no restaurants in Ranthambore, everyone eats in their hotel.
Gingerly heading down the stairs to the hotels attached restaurant I'm not sure what to expect. We have already checked out the a la carte menu and know this is strictly a veggie joint, for which I'm slightly relieved! The restaurant is super basic, canteen style, warm-ish fridge (essential in this area) no AC but the food smells good and I haven't eaten since brekkie!
We opt for the buffet £3 each and a side of onion pakoras. I stand corrected, the food was beaut!!! In this case looks are not important it's what's on the inside that counts. A little spicy but great currys, even a little bit of tomato pasta to boot! No AC Is a struggle with the spice though- early night. Let's hope our tummys are still intact tomorrow, ready for the safari!
