Chiang Mai and Pai!
When people from the west settle in Thailand they normally end up living in Chiang Mai! Dispite being a fairly major city it still keeps a small town feel and you can still imagine the armies of elephants that were there 1000 years ago!
It has everything you could want from a city! In fact, its very easy to get fat in Chiang Mai! They do every sort of food imaginable! And you can learn to cook too! Which I did too! Its really hard to say what my favourite meal has been so far but the 2 of the top 3 came within a couple of days of each other here! One was a restaurant in Pai called Na's kitchen which did the best Thai food every for £1 per dish! The other was an amazing mexican restaurant in Chiang Mai! Both were totally out of this world!
We got to Chiang Mai on the night train which was cool! It made for a very comfortable nights sleep! Which was good because the train took 14 hours! Got to play scrablle tho which was good! Unfortunately I got beaten twice by someone that spoke english as their second langiage! Not a pround moment : )
Apart from the cooking course which was fantastic and hopefully will come in useful (we got to make green curry, Thai salad and thai noodles) during the day we also visited an insect museum (which was actually really cool) hugged tigers at the tiger kingdom (scary but cool- see the facebook photos) went to a umbrellla museum and went bungee jumping! The bungee juming was definitly the most fun but all the other things were cool too!
I think Chiang Mai is probably the easiest city I've ever been to! I would love to live there! We only had 5 days tho! Then it was off to Pai which was a mere 3 hours away! However, they manage to squeeze about 1000 bends into a 3 hours journey so even I felt a little sick!
Pai itself is a beatiful town in the country that was for years a hippie commune. Its grown up now and has become a tourist centre but with the same easy living feel. The sourround area has some cool canyons and temples but the highlight was definietly the 80 degree water coming from the hot springs! They were a wonder to behold And it was really nice to have a wash after all these months : )
