Shabbos was... interesting. While we both completely missed services, Josh did manage to get us a place at the Rabbi's table for dinner. It was pleasant enough except the the Rabbi was a little full of himself. That worked in our favor too though. Hearing that Josh was a fan of whiskey, he gave him a shot of single-malt blend. When Josh's reaction was kind of "meh" he insisted on giving him the last of a bottle of really good 15-year old Glenlivet. The food was also pretty good and the first time in days Josh had had any meat at all. He was grateful.
The next morning after Josh came back from shul we headed out to the Globe for our performance. This time however, we had to walk to Central London instead of taking the Tube which was a pretty rough two-hour walk. We made it to the theater about ten minutes late which made understanding the story kind of difficult until about halfway through. It was a really, really great production and it was really enjoyable considering we had just walked for two hours and stood for another three.
After the performance we walked over to Tower Bridge to see it being raised. I'm not sure what we expected but it wasn't that spectacular. Now if a travel guide to England fell from the sky into the Thames as it was raising, well, that would've been something.
From there we went to the Tate Modern (free admission excl. exhibits), London's premiere modern art museum. They have some pretty interesting stuff there. My favorites were a set of pieces by Rothko, a wall painting that included two actual stuffed crows shot with arrows and one of Monet's waterlily paintings.
It was an awesome day but it ended badly. There was some confusion about meeting after doing separate tours of the museum and after not finding Josh outside and thinking that he headed back home, I hopped on the Tube. When I got home, Josh of course wasn't there. He arrived over an hour later having made the whole walk at dusk with no map, no ID and no money and totally exhausted and dehydrated. Whoops. We just had a serious talk about the buddy system and agreed to be a whole lot more careful in the future.
