Well the rain did not come to much. Just a few drops. However a cool wind blew in this morning from the south and it was cloudy so it was a pretty cool grey day all in all. Not what the outback should be however a return to sun and 24c is promised for tomorrow. About 250km to Charters Towers through several of little one pub creek towns (Corocodile Dundee style) with publicans with long grey beards and dry humour. Just what you would expect. Arrived in Charters Towers and its almost the big smoke by comparison. Certainly the biggest town since Griffith with all of the normal fast food and supermarket outlets. The town itself is beautiful. Lots of parks, wide streets and old buildings. Will get the camera clicking when its sunny tomorrow. There is, believe it or not, an old style 2 screen drive in cinema next to our caravan park so we are of to see a double bill of Hangover 3 and Scary Movie at 6.30 with a few beers, a cold chook and coleslaw and fresh bread rolls. Have not done that since the 70's in the States. Tommorow there is the Charters Towers Cup at the jockey club the opposite side of the caravan park to the cinema so I went and introduced myself this afternoon as a sponsor of the Ballarat Turf Club and we have been invited to join the commitee for the 5 races from 1.30pm as they apparently love entertaining visitors. Looking forward to it its very scenic and quite rustic
Just add on from me is the last time I went to the drive-in it was in Geelong and Cheech and Chong was playing on the radio while who remembers the movie!!

Steve & Deb Cheech and Chong, "Up in Smoke?"
Helen I remember bits of it (stoned at the time as I recall!) Sounds like fun, I've never been to a drive-in. And the races too, lucky you. It's Royal Ascot in the UK at the moment, and the Queen finally won the Gold Cup. She usually presents the cup to the winning owner, so her son presented the cup to her!
Tracy & Rob Gotta love Cheech & Chong up in smoke, Hey man they were awesome.Hope you enjoy the races & have some wins. It certainly looks like a very big town. Hows sleeping in a caravan going? are you missing you big bed at all? I'm sure your having such a great adventure you bed at home doesn't get a thought. Tried to call you the other nihgt but I don't think there was any seervice. Will try again today. Safe travels. Love you xx
