I have tried to convince myself that I have become accustomed to the time here in England, but the fact that I have decided to start a travel blog at 1:15am is probably evidence to the contrary. Yet, because school doesn't start for another 5 days and I have little to do tomorrow, I am not bothered in the slightest. My day today was comprised of grocery shopping ( I had to wake up early to make sure I made it - it is a Sunday after all) learning Spanish off Rosetta Stone and practicing my juggling skillz. Yes, that's right, after living in Southern California my entire life, I have chosen now to learn Spanish... It's probably my love of Mexican food that is motivating me - learning how to order enchiladas makes me believe they will be in my life again, and thus makes my stay in the land of burgers and chips bearable.
I am in no way saying that I am not enjoying England, on the contrary I have only been here 6 days and am already falling in love. I love their excellent transportation system, the way everyone here seems to be polite, the history, the silly accents, that everyone seems to own at least 5 suits, the way even an expletive seems lovely ( w***er', 'oh bullocks', 'b*****'), the theater, London, English children who say 'mummy' etc. etc. The main reason I'm here is for theater, and I've already seen 2 shows. I saw All My Sons at the Apollo Theater. An AMAZING production. And a comedy show (Eugene Mirman) at a Festival in Greenwich. These two shows were in completely different venues and styles and yet both made for an excellent night out.
I guess I should take a moment to explain my reasons for being here (that is assuming you are reading my blog without knowing me, which is a rather large assumption). I'll be starting a masters program on Thursday at East 15 for acting. I was interested in doing more school - the real world sounds scary - but I was only going to do it if it was a really off the wall program that would challenge me with something new. I think I found said program, and I guess we'll find out if I was right in a few days... Also, the fact that the school is right outside of London was a huge draw. While here I plan on traveling as much as possible, so I guess here goes nothing!
Oh, major win of the day... I learned one of the guys from The Inbetweeners (a great show here in the UK, download it) went to East15, awesome...
