After a little bit of a rocky start (2500 ppl checking in to the MGM in Vegas on the day we arrived & a 7 hr ordeal for Vito & my Dad to get the RV-don't ask!), we are off & running! I am happy to report that the RV is spacious & very nice instead. We are fully stocked & are basically a moving hotel suite.
Vegas was nice but not my favorite. First of all, you all know I love the summer & the heat but 111 degrees was ridiculous! Not only could you fry an egg on the pavement but you could have had bacon & a side of hash browns to go with it! Then there was the episode where I had to hop a fence-Sam said she didn't know her Mom was a ninja! But that's a story for another day. There were way too many people & the strip reminded me of Times Square. I have no desire to go back. Ever.
We left Vegas & headed for Zion National Park. Repeat after me: Awe inspiring. Magnificent. Surreal. I keep looking around, thinking that this just does not look real. Our camp ground is nestled at the bottom of beautiful 4000-6000 ft sandstone rock formations. The scenery is breathtaking.
This morning we were picked up by our own private guide, Sonny. He brought us to a part of the park called Lambs Knoll where he outfitted us with helmets & harnesses. Then we hiked into the park & up trails to get to a cliff (yes I said I hiked & yes I said cliff). I then entrusted my children to Sonny to teach them how to repel down said cliff (no I wasn't drinking). The 1st repel was down a 60 ft drop into a canyon & the 2nd was down a sheer 80 ft drop into another canyon. And yes, I went down right behind them! Then I started drinking!
Tomorrow we head out to Bryce Canyon!
