And so we get to the dreaded last day of our holiday. In some ways it has snuck up on us but it really does seem like we have been away from home much longer than the four weeks. We leave our apartment by 11:00 and are met with mayhem at Honolulu Airport. It is chaos as it seems everyone is leaving Hawaii at midday today. There are queues all over the place and we join at least four of them while we try to work out which one we should actually be in. We have allowed plenty of time fortunately - you certaainly wouldn't want to be under time pressure here. Finally we board our plane after our final fast food meal (another burger, fries, and drink). Todd greets us at the airport and had already dropped our car out there for us (thanks so much Todd and Sheree for the taxi service!) and before we know it we are home!
What an adventure it has been for us. We have seen so much of the United States. We all have our favourite bits but we all agree that Americans are warm and friendly hosts. They were helpful, interested in where we came from, extremely patriotic (in a good way) and although we saw many many homeless and struggling people in all the cities we visited we never had a single problem or difficuly (other than those of our own making!). We would do it again in a blink.
