Clare and Nige are up early and wander the short distance ovef to the canyon rim. We are close to the Bright Angel trail which leads to the floor of the canyon. We venture down for 10 mins and come across a mule deer fawn and her mother. After breakfast we take the girls back to the bright angel trail to repeat the walk and then head out of the park bound for Williams 100 km south. We really enjoy Williams - Nige had been through here withTodd, Steve, and Nige three and a half years ago with the bikes and corvette. Williams is a route 66 town and thrives on the tourism generated by "Wild Hog" types and their long suffering familes! Somehow Williams pulls it off and it all works. We enjoy the tourist shops and have dinner at the most kitsch diner of then all - and love it!
Next day we firstly take the I40 west until Seligman where we join route 66. Seligman really is a kitsch 66 town and the cars and buildings are fun to photograph. We push on all the while humouring Nige as he retells tales from his adventures with the boys here....yawn. Hackberry is the next stop - more 66 photos, more Nige stories. We leave 66 at Kingman and thankfully join a road that Nige hasn't been on so the reminiscing finally ends. Next stop Hoover dam and Las Vegas. The Hoover dam is spectacular and we walk over the dam - not for those who suffer from vertigo. We arrive in Las Vegas late afternoon and after dinner in the hotel we take a night drive up the Strip. We park and walk -venturing along like 5 possums caught in the headlights! What a crazy city. The lights are amazing, the people rather unusual, and although it is interesting Las Vegas is probably not a highlight for us!
