Life has been pretty lazy since we made it to the beach, we were only supposed to spend a few days here, but have ended up staying for a week! Sihanoukville has a nice vibe, lots of travellers & nice bars & restaurants etc, but the actual beaches were a big disappointment; covered in litter & overrun with naughty beach urchins selling bracelets & dodgy manicures. Theres a lot of potential here, but it is not a patch on Goa, I think I'll have to hold out til Thailand before we see the really beautiful beaches! That said, we have been here a week, so there is definately some allure to the place.
For the first few days we hired mopeds - yes after 7 years, I finally succumbed & let Vish get a 'Ped' and we're still alive to tell the tale! Vish actually surprised me by turning out to be quite a good driver, so I have no idea why he still doesnt have a license. There is now talk of purchasing a vintage Vespa in Bangkok & having it shipped back to Britain!! With our new found freedom, we drove all along the coast & checked out all the beaches, sadly they were all the same, with varying degrees of litter & naughty children - it's a real shame as the place has so much to potential, although the developers have already cottoned onto this & there are already lots of 5* hotels under construction, so it will be interesting to see what happens here...
Tomorrow we say goodbye to Cambodia & head to Vietnam, we've had a really good time here, but its time for a change. Vietnam is the country I was least looking forward to, but we've heard some good things, so I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Bring on the Summer Rolls!
