Song of the day: Beatles - With A Little Help From My Friends
It all started with a little train tour from crazy Los Angeles to a much more laid back San Diego on a very sunny Wednesday afternoon.
On Tuesday we took half our lunch from the Getty Center, officially our first doggy bags, put them in the fridge at home and took them first to LAX to drop off our beloved car and on to Union Station in downtown LA to board the Pacific Surfliner, which would take us down to San Diego on a beautiful trip down the Pacific coastline. The lunch wasn't bad either!
Once we arrived at the Santa Fe station by the harbour, we made our way to our hostel on 5th Street, which turned out to be a much shorter walk than we'd thought. We got settled into our room, both of us ending up on the top of a bunkbed, not knowing who was more terrified of falling out in the middle of the night. Thankfully, we have both managed to stay in our beds so far.
The hostel looks amazing and is so close to everything, we've been doing nothing but wander round the city for the past few days. On these wanderings, we did also go by a few bars, somehow! There's a cool bunch of people at the hostel and everyone hangs out round the same area, so even after 2 days, it's hard not to bump into anyone anywhere. The city's so much smaller than LA, it's definitely made us miss the car a little bit less... although not by much. Thankfully the mall is only a block away and it is constantly calling our name!
We went to Balboa Park on our first day and got our first really bad sunburn. But it was worth seeing this amazing place, now sharing the number one spot with the Getty Center, which was equally beautiful. We're definitely heading back there before we leave to visit a few more museums. Yesterday was spent on Coronado Island, home to the famous Coronado Hotel, where a fair few scenes from Some Like It Hot were shot. You can imagine our excitement. We spent our entire afternoon sitting outside the hotel by the ocean, enjoying the American tradition called 'free refills'.
Tomorrow will most likely be spent on the other side of the border, where we will NOT be reenacting a scene from the OC.
Time to put some pictures up for all of you to drool over, after which we will be getting ourselves some dinner in Hillcrest, home of the gays.
xoxo
