K treated herself to some opal earrings, have to have some opal from CP; on the road by 10am. 37oC and 45km/hr winds....not a comfortable driving day ... tail wind for some stretches, then van/car blown around by cross winds on others. Fri 05/09/14 Leaving NT today, have thoroughly enjoyed our time touring the Territory; we will be back! 730km drive to Coober Pedy. Food & fuel stops at Erldunda Roadhouse in NT and Marla in SA. Al & Kelly caught up with us here and we travelled rest of the way together. Long drive through flat, empty, seemingly endless landscape. Eventually a change .... no more red sand .... the opal mining rubble piles of Coober Pedy appear .... all shapes and sizes...

Fri 16/05/14 Set off at 10am to begin our crossing of the Nullarbor Plain. Might fall behind our schedule a bit as we did not factor in the golf originally. We purchased a driver, a 3 iron, and a putter that were in the 'on sale' bin at Ceduna Sports shop and are using golf balls the kids found in the scrub on the first two holes at Ceduna Golf Club (very professional approach); should be great fun and will help break up the drive. Tues 13/05/14 Easy drive, 415km, 6 hours, sunny 25oC. Rest stop at Elliston and then at Streaky Bay for fuel and lunch, where Michael tried out the famous local oysters - delish! Fri 09/05/14 Wind and rain began around 4am. By the time we got up the van was surrounded by a huge puddle. Kids breakfasted and then made the run to the games room, while Mikey & I were again drenched doing final packup and hitching on; soggy and frozen re-visited - its a great look.
