Thurs 28/08/14 Chilly overnight low of 3oC - kids wearing beanies, jumpers and gloves this morning! What happened to our warm nights! Days are still high 20's to low 30's so shouldn't complain too much. Staying at the MacDonnell Ranges Big4 out of town at the base of the ranges; great scenery! Kids are wrapt - there are two jumping pillows and several 'awesome' playgrounds. Facilities are really spacious and clean, staff are friendly and helpful - very nice park, would come again. Need a break from driving, so utility day today - laundry and homeschool. Pizzas for dinner and kids have found some friends - Charli & Isabel - so all good.
Fri 29/08/14 Touristed all day today, Visited historic Telegraph Station, which was very well presented; LBA enjoyed trying to tap out their names using the morse key and code. Had a birds eye view of town from atop ANZAC Hill. Toured the School of the Air - LBA suggested that perhaps they could join and not go back to school? Were advised they are not eligible, but nice try! Lunched in Todd Mall and perused the shops. Took some snaps in the dry Todd River where they run the famous dry river bed boat races. Next out to the West MacDonnell Ranges. Photo stop for John Flynn Grave, more well known for the fact the first boulder that marked it had to be returned to the Devils Marbles sacred site and another more suitable boulder was allocated by local indigenous clan, the Arrente. Visited Simpsons Gap and then hiked the Standley Chasm Lookout ... steep climb had us puffing a bit, but the view from the ridge was worth the effort. Although, Lex & Michael deicided to skip the last leg and wait at the shelter. Flashed past the supermarket to stock up on groceries before we head to Yulara tomorrow. An extra day or so would have been nice here .... next time!
