Firstly, apologies for the lack of pictures. I'm having bizarre technical problems uploading them to the STA blog site. (I may need to switch to a new blog, stay tuned...)
Had a great first night in SF. Dinner down on Fishermen's Wharf at Ricky's, one of the several seafood restaurants intothe precinct. Apparently no one in SF actually does the fishing anymore, but the cooking hasn't lost anything. Excellent clam chowder served by a very nice waitress :-)
Since it was (still) raining, I finished off the night with a traditional American pastime: the movies. U2-3D in IMAX. A truly amazing experience. They should make more real films this way.
My second day introduced me to the excellent SF municipal transit system (or MUNI for short). I swear every time someone says Americans are addicted to cars, someone else puts another bus in San Francisco. With new-found mobility I visited more far flung parts of the city like Haight-Ashbury (sight of the 1960's hippie revolution) and Golden Gate Park. The Golden Gate Bridge itself made a very impressive sigh, although I didn't go into the tourist centre because, well, it was full of tourists...
During the course of the day I also managed to wreck my knee somehow. This is going to make New York a pain, since apparently everybody walks everywhere. I guess I will too, just a little more slowly...
