Less than 24 hours and counting...
As I sat enjoying my spiced chai latt, watching an eye appealing boy-with his laptop in hand and Buddy Holly glasses on his face, listening to chatter about final exams and moving out of shanty houses; I admired the woodwork of the creaky tables and I suddenly had a yearning for home even though I was sitting in my favorite spot in town. A man with a British accent babbled on his cell phone about his travels to Israel and other foreign and exotic places to who I assumed was a friend on the other end of the long distance call. His conversation got me thinking of my own experiences and how much I still have left to do.
The pictures hanging from wires of this cozy, college-town coffeehouse speak of its students awareness about the world. Some capture images of homes covered in straw roofs, others of palaces at sunset, and many of tan-faced, smiling children. It's funny how a room scented with coffee beans and sounding of creaky floors in a town hidden by hills can speak of worlds away and inspire a need of experience. Although I love this wooden table and my latte with its perfect scent, the foam that sticks to my upper lip, and the cup that fits in the palm of my hand, I know I must hang my own pictures on the wall of the creaky coffeehouse.
So, like the Britishman said to his long-distance friend, I will say to you all, I'm gonna dash!
Tomorrow begins my journey and I am prepared to greet it with open arms and an open mind.
