Bob and Nige-The World Tour 2006! (Fi & Jen)
Bula!
oh what a night!! You would not believe the wierdness of the past two days spent here in levuka (fiji's old capital).
After 5 hours aboard bus , boat and then bus again we finally made it to our destination-the royal hotel! where me and bob were gutted to find no rooms available and end up lugging the 30kg (i kid you not) backpacks to the closest hotel possible-Mary's Inn!
This resembled more an old peoples home than anything else, had no hot water
(Bob: I am not joking-the temperature was sub zero-never have i ever witnessed such a freezing shower-horrendous.)
and was generally vile. But we were just happy for a clean bed (well almost clean) free from bugs and wildlife!
However... no sooner have we laid our heads to the pillows do I hear rustling from within a plactic bag. Bob is quick to inform me it is merely my imagination, that she is the only rodent in the room and to shut up and go back to bed! But the bag is now moving!! Knowing bob's love for natue I INSIST she takes the bag outside to dispose of the contens. Bob is reluctant to get out of bed and still persistnt that I am seeing things. A couple of minutes later however she is not so cocky, as a mouse, yes a vile hairy rodent leaps out of the weetabix box an scuttles away down the corridor!
Bob: VILE-we cannot believe that there are living creatures - vermin in the very room we are staying in!! It is a while before we drift off into an uneasy sleep... At 2 am I am rudely awoken to a massive scurrying sound in my toiletries bag where a rat is knawing on my smalls and face cream- I am mortified!! nige is complaining that she is knackered-Boo bloody hoo-at least her possessions arent under attack. Once again I have to let the creature out of the room. Vile, I think I am scarred for life.
Breakfast only added to the horrors of the previous night when our host whips up a feast of boiled egg, and fried jam sandwiches. I have had enough and after a few minutes managing to keep down the meal, quickly inform Nige it is time to make a sharp exit!!!
We are now staying in a 'charming' old hotel (the oldest in the south pacific). Result! Although the staff are a little hard of hearing to say the least.
Yesterday we embarked on a tour into the crater of an extinct Volcano with a local called Epi whose wife was from Sunderland! God its a small world-needless to say the house/hut was emblazed with slander against NUFC. We had a traditional Fijian lunch and presented kava to the priest of the village before trekking up into the mountains with epi to learn about local herbal remedies. Me and Nige were loving it!
Anyway today we have to decided to hire bikes and cycle round the island (like an old married couple) to look for a bishops tomb! should be interesting if we dont get lost first!
Hope everyone is enjoying the summer! Happy belated birthday Tristan-Ive sent you a postcard cos I couldnt find a birthday card. hope you had a wicked time!
Love Fi and Jen xxxxxx
