Tuesday July 22nd
Departure: Bryce Canyon, UTAH
Arrival: Grand Canyon, ARIZONA
We had the most amazing hike thru bryce canyon this morning. We did have to deal with a new friend before we could get our day started. Our new friend was a chipmunk who kept getting in the car while trying to pack it. Very cute but very sly, he had us runnin around the car while he hopped in one side and then hid under seats etc.
We only had the morning to do some hiking but it seemed to work out well as it was a perfect hike that we ended up doing a lot faster than the suggested time (we felt pretty good about that). Bryce kept saying .."now Rachel you have to remember this is a bit more than cobble hill mountain". Ha! So true! We hike cobble hill in Shawnigan when visiting Rachel's parents and this was a wee bit hotter and a wee bit longer. We started at sunset point hiked to sunrise point then along the Queen Garden Trail and the NAvahoh trail. We saw hoodoos, what they call windows, bridges and more chipmunks which we had seen enough of at that point.
We left Bryce Canyon exiting thru the Red Canyon had a nice little stop in at a little side market called the Indian Store. Bryce should totally buy a cowboy hat. It would beso suited for the Grand Canyon. Anyway a bit of a drive from Bryce Canyon to Grand Canyon we were mostly waiting for crossing the Colorado River which we did eventually. Just as we crossed into Arizona before the City of Page we ventured over top of it with a Dam on the Left side. Pretty neat considering we won't really get close to it again as it is so far down in the Grand Canyon.
We arrive just as the sun is setting in the Grand Canyon which made it a bit hard to see while driving but a great moment to enter this next part of out journey. Things were a bit hard to find as we entered the park. The entrance poll was closed which is where you usually get a map and some instructions. This meant we did not have to pay to enter but harder to venture with out any info. WE hope it will be a bit clearer in the morning when it is daylight and a bit more active.
Oh and we finally figured out the time zone here. We have been on Mountain Time when in Montana and Wyoming and Utah. And we did hear that Arizona might change back to Pacific time. Well indeedthe Grand Canyon changes but only in the summer months. Kinda interesting. So we are back on Pacific Time.
Will Write about our adventures in the Major Canyon soon.
