New Delhi, India
Hi DC/ Deirdre (whichever one you call me, a woman of many names!) here entering her first blog from India! Well we arrived safe and sound yesterday with no major dramas. The hardest part i reckon of the whole trip is behind me now- saying all my goodbyes, goodbyes suck;-( and im terrible at them...This place is mental, we are in Delhi!! Saw an elephant just chilling at the side of the road when we were coming in from the airport.. as you do! Cows can be seen randomly in the middle of the street/ traffic- they are sacred so no-one touches them! And you see the odd monkey on the footpath too... Im feeling like David Attenborough over here! Bit of a culture shock but its very interesting. The heat is something else, we're melting away! We went on a tour today given by a former street kid, Javed, who was helped by this organisation "Salaam Trust". He's studying now at Delhi University - BA Sociology, he wants to work for UNICEF some day. Javed shows you how innovative and clever the streetkids are to survive at all. He brought us then to the shelter/ school they run for the streetkids. Your donation for the walk goes straight to the organisation which is really worthwhile. After lunch then we did the main tourist spots, all very impressive and we'll throw up a few pics for you to see. Oh yea if my hair looks short its because it really is... had to take a chop as i ve no hairdryer on this trip! Gotta fly please drop us messages , i would love to hear from everyone and any news from home;-) Chat soon in the cyber sense! xx d
