hello my loyal followers; i though it was time to reward u all with an update.since the last update so much has happened i don't know if i can do it all justice, but here goes.
Edinburgh
sally, Zaiga and I were in the city for only 3 days and we managed to see 16 shows in that time. being the middle of the fringe we didn't really have to look far - flyers were being handed out left, right and centre. Just walking down the high street you could stop and chat with an angel, devil, jugglers, drummers, giant wood nymphs and even the occasional human.
we managed to see dramas, including Let us entertain You" which while sounds like it should be light hearted ; included pretty intense themes such as paedophilia, mental illness and included a graphic rape seen. on stage. and was narratored by a clown. it was an excellent performance but man it was depressing. made you think. particularly immediately after the rape seen when the clown got up looked directly at the audience and asked "well isn't this what you wanted? didn't you come here to be entertained?be entertained". it was well delivered.
on a brighter note we saw the boy with tape on his face (me and sally for the second time!) and it was still fantastic. the entire performance is one man(with tape over his mouth strangely) who uses random onjects to and sound track as well as audience participation to create his show. ah hilarious. also good was a free show by a bunch of guys about our age - completely sketches. show entitled Mugging Chickens - how could we go wrong?
it was intense couple of days, particularly the last night when sally and i realised that with the time our plane left we'd have no accomdation for a night. so as any good drama nerds would do we chucked an all-nighter and saw a stand up comedy night. where the middle aged MC bared all in the name of... well i'm not sure what but it was funny none the less.
next we were off to....
Spain
started in Alicante - did nothing but lie on the beach and relax. was excellent - though the sun burn not so much. our last night in an effort to prove to our hostel owner that we were completely sad we went sat on the beach to an appropriately late hour. on our way back to th hostel we got pulled into a bar with the offer of free sangria - and a guy was giving salsa lessons. we sucked but man it was fun!
next to valencia and our incredibly cheap 4 star hotel. complete with shower. with hot water. it may have taken us 4 hours to get there due to meeting up with whytie and then get lost.
second day in valencia was La Tomatina. worlds largest food fight. what's that i hear you say? i know one that's bigger? do u know one with more than 20,000 participants in one streets and 2 tons of tomatoes? yeah thought not. it was fun, and they had water cannons to keep u cold, but if i were to give one piece of advice? WEAR GOGGLES!!!!!! tomato juice to the eye is NOT fun!
till next time!
