Hi everyone, or G'Day for the last time as believe it or not this will be our last blog from Australia!
Well after 5 months in Oz we have made it in one piece to the great city of Sydney.
Shortly after our last update we crossed over the border into New South Wales, or 'the dark side' as we named it. This is due to it raining solidly for a whole week, which in a tiny campervan is not much fun. Imagine the sound of torrential rain landing on a tin roof 2 feet above your head when your trying to sleep and you get the idea!
So it was a rather uneventful first week in NSW, driving through various towns in the boob van most of which I cant remember the name of. One place worth a mention is Nimbin. This small town was founded some years ago as some kind of hippy colony but these days smells strongly of weed and is crawling with pot dealers preying on naive young travellers. Being the clean living pair we are we decided against staying the night! we also stayed in Byron Bay for a night which was beautiful for the few hours it didnt rain.
Pam meanwhile was continuing to attract a lot of attention. She was a tourist attraction herself, a few times when we had forgotten where we had parked her we only needed to look for a large group of camera toting Japanese tourists and we knew she would be in the middle of them. I am not kidding!
After following the Pacific Highway down the coast we headed inland to the Blue Mountains NP. This is where I met my old folks who had came over for a well earned holiday and also to feed me and put a roof over our heads in Sydney. It is also where it stopped raining! We had a great few days enjoying the sun and stunning scenery. The mountains really are blue as well, apparently its due to light reflecting of the haze from the eucalyptus trees. So now you know. We took a day trip to Scenic World where we went on the worlds steepest railway and also a cable car which Sarah particularly enjoyed! This is the girl who plans to do 3 bungee jumps in New Zealand!
We arrived in Sydney on the 28th, driving Pam over the harbour bridge, it was a good feeling seeing the opera house and the harbour for the first time.
We dropped of Pam following one last attention grabbing drive through Sydney city centre and got to work seeing the sights. Sydney really is a spectacular place. On thursday evening we all immersed ourselves in some culture and went to the Opera house to see the ballet, which was actually very enjoyable. We also strolled round the Rocks area, the oldest part of Sydney and went to Bondi too. Its also been good catching up with the 'olds' who have had a great trip themselves.
So thats our time in Oz over, 5 months have went by all too quickly, there has been some low times, but mostly good times. We have seen and done a lot, but its a huge place and there is so much that we havnt seen. I guess we will just have to come back!
But its not like we have to go home now or anything is it!? We have packed our winter woolies, tommorrow we fly to Christchurch. Roll on New Zealand!!
Bye for now
love Blair (and Sarah) xxx
