Hello, we have finally made it to Canberra the nations capital. After two days of driving through outback with nothing to see except fields and dead kangaroos its really nice to have arrived in a city again. We managed to check into a YHA hostel which is a bit on the expensive side to what we have normally paid in a hostel, but we cant complain because it has a sauna, jacuzzi and a swimming pool. So the first thing we did was drop our bags in the room, oh and we have a tv in the room which is great seen as the crickets on..and we headed downstairs to have a quick dip in the pool before going to check out what the city has to offer. After a bite to eat and a little wonder around we called it a night because we had an early start in the morning sightseeing and at the best of times we are not good at getting out of bed.
So the next morning we headed out to do the whole touristy thing and see the main attraction. We started by visiting the Australian Vision and Sound museum which would have been pritty good if we new anything about aussie t.v. Our next stop on the tour was to the Australian science museum Questacon. Now this was just our type of museum as it was interactive (in other words for kids) so with 200 hand-on exhibits I can definitely say a few inner children came out especialy when Will and Dave were flying down the giant slide with the rest of the school kids... but the big attraction at the museum is the artificial earthquake machine. Now let me tell you their was a few screams coming out of this ride..and by the end of it I think Will had lost his voice.lol.
After all the excitement of the museums (really) it was time to visit the main attraction Capital Hill wooo. This is where the Australian parliament house is and you could tell with all the security around the place. So by quickly dodging the guards and cctv cameras we managed to sneek onto the hill and get a few pictures. I think I could be the next 007 the way I scaled that bank to the top of the hill.lol.
So after our eventful afternoon, we though we would checkout the Friday night atmosphere and head into the city centre for a few scooners. As our money is starting to get a bit low we decided that the best way to kick start the night would be to get a cheep bottle of plonk in before we headed out. Now this was the worst bottle of vodka imaginable and it served us right for being cheep skates. So it took us about 2 hours to drink this thing before we went to the first bar just a little tipsy. But in the end it turned out to be a good night having a few drinks with the natives, even though it feels really strange singing christmas songs in 20 degrees heat.
