G'day everyone,
Sorry Ive been neglecting my journal a bit recently but oh my god have I got some stories to tell you now!! Well me and Dave are back on the road again heading up the east coast after leaving Sydney on Wednesday. Our last weekend in the city was spent basically getting drunk and saying bye to our mates. So I will give a quick shout out to some of the legends left behind.
First to the girls Anna, Cassandra and Siobhan and Kev and Dane enjoy the rest of your trip guys and im sure we will bump into you again up the coast. Next the Acom crew, Danny, Dave, John, Glenn and the big man Connor. Cant believe we came across an Irish lad who didnt drink the miserable bas#$rd as Conor would say.lol.but seriously I didnt know you could have such a crac putting folders into boxes for ten hours a day but with Danny and Johns, Arnold Shwarzenegger facts it got us throw the day.I didn’t realize Arni had been in so many blockbusters but hey he is the governator now after all.lol.
After saying a tearful goodbye to our mates and flat mates Eve, Damian and Roomy it was time to hit the road again….or so we thought? (well Dave had to say a few goodbyes to the ladies he was leaving behind as well, girls his No’ is 0420608179 just in case you need him for any odd jobs as he says he is a bit of a handyman theses days.lol.) When it came to starting the car again we had a slight problem, the battery was dead. So we managed to get a so called trainee mechanic across from the place we bought the car from to try and jumpstart it. But he was about as much use as a blunt knife and then he informed us that he just cleans the car, GREAT! So we decided to get a proper mechanic out to fit a new battery, now I know you are all thinking well why couldn’t they change it themselves and the answer to that is we couldn’t get the bolts of the bloody thing without pliers.
Finally midday Wednesday we managed to hit the road again and before heading up the east coast we decided to check out the Blue Mountains. Now the Blue Mountains are a large heritage national park east of Sydney. We did the whole touristy thing and headed down into the rain forest on the old vertical drop train. I tell ya what the oblivion at Alton towers has nothing on this thing…its about a hundred years old and im sure one of these days we are going to hear about people being killed on it. Luckily enough it wasn’t us so on the way back we decided to take the cable car.
Minutes after leaving the Blue Mountains a car pulled us over and told us that our back break lights weren’t working so that meant another trip to a garage. But thankfully it only turned out to be a loose wire so we were soon back on the road again but bye this time it was starting to turn night fall. So we headed up the pacific highway towards Coffs Harbor to get our heads down for the night before making the rest of the journey north to meet Jake in Byron Bay.
Now at night the roads over here are dead and you can be going for hours before you see the next town so it’s not the best place to break down especially at night, but that’s just what happened to us!! There we were singing along to the radio when all of a sudden Dave tells me the engines cut out. In the middle of know where with no food or water we thought we were going to die, but then a car pulled over. My first thought was we were saved but then I realized this could be Wolf Creek all over again and I didn’t fancy dieing just before my 23 birthday (just thought I would get that in their folks yeah it is this Sunday) so we locked the doors. Thankfully it was the police (I know its not very often you say thankfully about the police turning up) so we thought we were saved…but all they said was what’s the problem boys? “Our engines stalled” are you in the RAC? “No” well good look fellas get walking 15kilometers to the nearest town. Well thanks a lot five-O they were about as much use as a chocolate fire guard. But we did manage to get a hold of the recovery services number, but the 300 dollar call out charge managed to scare us off and by this time I was really tired and pd off. So I said to Dave when I kick the petrol tank start the engine and like a miracle a puff of black smoke came out of the exhaust and a roar from the engine and Dave screamed at the top of his voice lets go Millsy.
We finally managed to get to the nearest town (Nelsons Bay) around 12 o’clock and parked the car up in the back of a five star hotel before putting the seats back and getting our heads down for the night.
The next morning the car started up no problems so we thought it must just have been something clogging the petrol line. It turned out we was wrong again and 60 kilometers down the road we were on the hard shoulder with the bonnet up. This time the old kicking of the tank didn’t seem to be working. So off Dave went on a 10 km walk to the nearest petrol station. In the mean time I managed to get the attention of an old farmer across the road but on a closer inspection he couldn’t figure out what the problem was, but he did offer to drive us down to pick Dave up. When we final found him he was exhausted trying to hitch hike a lift back to the car. It turned out the petrol station was further than we had thought (bout 20km) and in that heat (30 degrees) he was ready to die.lol. So when I turn up in a truck with an old guy and an old scruffy dog hanging out of the window he looked up to me like the messier himself. Thankfully the old man (John) was a really nice guy and he towed us round to the nearest garage (and made us lunch) to let the local mechanic have a gander at it. He told us that the petrol pump had gone so that was another 400 bucks out of the back sky rocket to get her up and running again. (That’s 550 bucks spent on the car between us over about 24 hours).
We finally made it to Coffs Harbour at about 10 o’clock at night so that meant another night sleeping in the car but not before a quick pint down the local first.
The next day we made it to Byron Bay which is a really cool place the only problem is that everyone wants to stay here and there are only about three hostels in the place, all of which were fully bucked. So we ended up pitching a tent up in a resort called the Arts Factory. Now it seemed to us like a bit of a hippy place with lots of people with dreadlocks walking round and people talking about peace and harmony. But it did have a nice pool and bar and we did come across a few normal people so it didn’t turn out to bad. (We also managed to get a free scuba lesson out of it which was cool man as they would say.lol.)
That night it was time to meet up with Jake again and check out what the town had to offer. We couldn’t believe our eyes when we noticed one of the Canadian guys from Sydney dancing on one of the tables in a bar called cheeky monkeys. The rest of the boys were there as well so it was a bit of a reunion and yeah they were still drinking everyday, crazy guys.lol.
So I hope I haven’t bored you all to death with this essay but I did tell you I had a few stories to tell!! Oh and their will be more to come later this week as we are meeting Nick and Miller tomorrow so until then byeeeeeeeeee for now.
