We are off to see The Old (walled) City in Dubrovnik after a 2 hr 45 min ride again through two border crossings. (We were in a long queue for the crossings this time.) Coming down toward the city brought a splendid view of where we were headed.
It seemed as if we were entering The wall with a thousand of our not so close friends, speaking a variety of languages. (It's the holiday season here now.) We climbed up to the top of the wall to spectacular views of the Adriatic Sea and surrounds. We watched kyacks being "corralled" by the lead and following kyacks, people--mostly young--jumping from rocks into the sea, the locals living within the walls bringing in their laundry, and The Old Harbor used only by local boats and cruise ship tenders like the Seabourn.
Old Town's main street, known as Stradun, is lined with baroque buildings and limestone flags (aka stones). The walls, almost 2km in length, are well preserved and impressive. They were built between the 8th and 16th centuries. Climbing down, we headed for a delicious lunch at Domino. (No not the US pizza!) Local beer and excellent octopus salad, not much salad stuff though, was had by many. Then I was off to wander and shop for gifts before meeting our crew for our trip back to Sundowner via the airport for Carol's bag. This time the trip, including the airport stop, only took about 2hrs.
(Note: there is so much more to see and do on The Dalmatian Coast that a return is a must. Midge says the way to see it is on a Gullet, a boat that travels the coast and islands.)
Then of course we had our cocktail hour--cigar for Midge, before heading into the marina for dinner. Another good meal with good local wine was had by all at Il Posto Giusto. It was my night to buy as the crew takes turns with dinner.
