Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Hi All,
I trust you are all fabulous and thriving.
It was a big weekend! My best friend got married on Saturday and the day was perfect and memorable. The wedding after party and the next day's breakfast festivities were fabulous but I was pooped at the end of it all!
After lots of packing, re-packing and sad farewells, I was on a Cathay Pacific flight bound for magical Phnom Penh. We transited in Hong Kong which involved taking elevators, lifts, trains and shuttle buses just to reach the boarding gate of our Dragon Air flight. When I think of dragons I think fire breathing flying creatures, I think Harry Potter and I think scary death. So not the best imagery boarding this flight, but I have to admit that the dim sum they served on board was yum!
It is monsoon season. So whilst flying Cambodia my initial thought was, where does the water end and the land begin and most importantly does this Airbus convert into a seaplane? Luckily enough we reached dry land in Phnom Penh!
Driving through the "Cambodge" reminds me of Sri Lanka, the big slap of humidity in the air and the crazy traffic are exactly the same.
We checked into our hotel and strolled down Street 240 (yes very French with the street as the pre-fix) which is populated by trendy restaurants, galleries and silk shops. Can you believe I found a chocolate shop and patisserie on my first day… OK may be you can! I was intrigued by the "Kampot pepper" chocolate which I think I might have to try today.
We dined at "Morning Glory" where the three of us (my parents and I) devoured green chicken curry and pork with chilli and ginger, all for the princely sum of $14.
Dinner was at Frizz where the crepe with shredded chicken, carrot and bamboo shoots was delicious, especially when served with a spicy/milky/nutty concoction. The deep fried spring rolls (I was under strict instructions to not eat fresh salad) were filled with chicken and crushed peanuts and served with a chilli lime sauce. Yum!
Tonight we are bound for the riverside…. update to follow shortly!
