So after a fairly ridiculous wait through customs and finally meeting Stacey and Lee we got back to Stace's pretty late... not that the boys were complaining as the Man Utd v Arsenal Champions League semi final was kicking off in about 45 minutes! We feigned some interest but have to admit I was much more excited by the PG Tips on offer after which I headed to bed for a seriously long coma...!
At some point post midday of the same day (6th) we awoke and imagine my excitement at sniffing out GHDs?! Other than that temporary excitement, we had a fairly uneventful day minus a little explore around the river and a trip to the supermarket and bottleshop (sorry, bottle-o) - getting our priorities straight! After 7 weeks of no wine, where better than Oz?! The choice was seriously overwhelming although by this stage can't say I was that fussy. Ended up heading into Fremantle (sorry, Freo) for dinner and drinks at the Little Creatures micro brewery which was wicked, reminded me of something out of James Bond (maybe the Facility in N64 Goldeneye?!) and the sheer amount of sharer food we ordered and beer wasn't too bad either. Nicole took us back via the river around King's Park for amazing views of the city at night and some whispering wall where you could hear other people's conversations at the opposite end!
Again, the following day (7th) was somewhat of a write off (a recurrent theme of our afternoons!) until Dan, Lee and I caught the bus into the City to meet Stacey after work. We had planned to head up to the 33rd floor of some massive building where there is a revolving restaurant/bar but apparently we had picked the one night when the bar was shut and didn't fancy bankrupting ourselves to have dinner there. Walked down to the waterfront and instead had drinks at the Lucky Shag, much less pretentious and appropriate for us lot! What had started out as a few drinks followed by dinner turned into a couple of bottles of wine each and some potato wedges! Obviously couldn't tear ourselves away from the live music where a bloke with a guitar was doing fairly unoriginal cover versions - until he whipped out a didgeridoo for In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins... Dan nearly wet himself at this point! Got the train and bus back to Applecross and picked up pizza takeaway that Stace had cleverly ordered ahead thanks to the iPhone! Finished the evening eating on the patio and sinking another bottle of wine!
The project of the day on Friday (8th) was fitting a new car stereo... so while the men worked it out I did absolutely nowt! (prob straightened my hair) Waited for Stacey to finish work and then packed up the car for our roadtrip southwards. We headed down to Bussleton to stay at Kylie's (good friend of Stacey's) beach house for the weekend, checking out some wineries and eating yummy food. We set off about 6 in the end and minus stops for alcohol at the bottle-o and sustenance at the most amusing burger/fish&chip shop with a ridiculously long menu, it took about 2 and a half hours. Met Stacey's mates and commenced drinking... not stopping until about 2am, urgh!
Thankfully the coffee sorted us out the next morning and got ready to go out.... to wineries! Started with Swings and Roundabouts, a much more informal place where we just kept asking for whatever we fancied then Clairault, much posher and more expensive hence arrived, drank the set list then left without making a purchase! Both places were set in beautiful scenery and close by to the Duckstein brewery/Saracens winery where we had lunch. Good beer and delicious bratwurst! So authentic it even had a German barman ;o) On the way back we hit the chocolate "factory", albeit not much of a factory but unlimited free chocolate buttons so wasn't complaining and the accompanying jam/chickens/veggie patch organic shop next door! Stopped for more booze and BBQ food in Dunsborough including kangaroo steak, had to be done. Got back for a beautiful sunset on the beach at the end of the road, complete with vino, what a tough life. Stayed out there til we were pretty chilly and came back for an epic game of Taboo and then Rockband... needless to say that wasn't my forte. Lee cooked up a treat on the BBQ and then perhaps rather foolishly we concocted some "smores" too (biscuits with marshmallow and dairy milk in the microwave!) Loads of wine and white port and more Rock Band followed then long chats until slowly people wilted one by one and went to bed!
Left the following morning/early afternoon for Perth via Stacey's parents! It was Mothers Day that Sunday for pretty much everywhere other than the UK so Dan and I gatecrashed their lunch... more BBQ! Had a really nice chilled afternoon before the long drive north. Stopped at Bussleton Jetty too and mooched down it til the 2nd half which was closed for repair (good job apparently as it is falling into the sea?!) The journey took ages on the way back but Stace and her Hyundai Lantra battled valiantly ;o) Headed out again though to a big casino complex in the evening so Lee (and Dan never turning down football) could watch the Manchester derby. It was a really cool venue with a massive sports bar and the hugest TV screens. Headed back as soon as it had finished, everyone pretty knackered and Lee was leaving at 3am for the UK.
Monday (11th), Dan and I decided to actually do some sightseeing round Perth and not just the bars! Ventured to Freo and Cottisloe Beach for the afternoon. The beach was beautiful, apparently it is frequently voetd one of the top 10 in the world?! Really small but a few cafes and bars. Came back to Fremantle but most things closed and so we headed back to Applecross via the shops for dinner. Nice chilled evening infront of the TV!
Well I shall hazard a guess and say that our last day in Perth, Tues (12th) was probably a late start....! Spent the afternoon chatting on the patio, packing, internet and shopping. Headed over to Vic Park at about 6.30pm for dinner as it is on the way to the airport. It is another suburb of Perth with loads of restaurants and bars. Found a cool pub type place that did good food and beers before ending up at the airport with a couple of hours to kill! Flying with Jetstar as they are a subsidiary of Qantas, which meant a seriously anti social flight time of 11pm, arriving in Cairns at 5.10am!
Had a GREAT week, so cool to catch up with Stacey and Lee (mainly Stacey as see Lee quite a lot back home! :op lol) and have some home comforts for a while. Will update everybody with Cairns and up to present time asap! xxxxxxx
