TREK DAY - mine and Al's best day so far!!!
An early start for us, up at 7 and picked up at 8.30 after a yummy breakfast of croissants and coffee. There were 9 of us all together in our mini van, and me and Al got talking to couple of Canadian boys, Lewis and Chris. I thought they were American whoops quite insulting for a canadian - also said I find it funny when they say 'aboot' instead of about, that didnt go down well! haha, all was good though and our first stop after an hours travel was the elephants. After being heckled into buying some bananas and sugar cane to 'make friendly with elephant' up we got into the baskets, me and Al were on the biggest elephant of all! We trecked around for about an hour in the mountain forests, up hills and down, but it wasnt scary as the elephants are so sturdy. We found out our elephants name was boojo and sang him a little song which our guide enjoyed greatly! (videos to follow!) Got lots of photos to upload too once I get the chance.
Next stop was the waterfall after a bit of a trek, so we stripped off (into bikinis, no skinny dipping here plese! hehe) and Alex forced me into the freezing water! Once we were in though it was lovely and we tried to get right under the waterfall but the current was too strong! We were just weak females! It was beautiful though, and afterwards me and Al got some good shots of us posing on rocks like the timote advert haha. Then scary scary stuff, we suddenly became aware of people shouting and we saw that a Thai father and his son were being dragged towards the rocks on the dangerous side of the pool that we had been told to stay away from as 3 people had died there recently. They were really struggling and we were so scared for the little boy but somehow they managed to pull themselves clear and a couple of men went to help them out. Phew! High drama indeed!
After that was a climb up HUNDREDS of steps which nearly finished Alex off, then more trecking and then back in the van to take us to a hill tribe village. We saw a lady weaving pashminas and each family had a wild boar (one was blue!) which they slaughter to bring luck to their new home. We then had some yummy lunch cooked for us at a stopping point - not in a village though which would have been nice but it was still Thai. We also spotted a poster of Wayne Rooney there - it upset me greatly the randomness of a remote hilltribe village and Rooney advertising coke!
Last stop was the bamboo rafting and I think the most fun me and Al have had in literally years, possibly EVER! Us and the boys shared a raft, Chris at the front standing behing the guide who was steering with a pole, me and Al sitting in the middle and Lewis at the back with another pole, and off we set. We were anticipating getting wet (but not actually soaking up half the river!) and had our bikinis under our shorts and vests and first just got wet bums as the guide kept tilting the raft in the water. As the journey progressed though I decided I wanted to have a go with the pole but after about 30 seconds I fell right in hahah! The scenery down the river was beautiful and we all laughted so much we were practically crying! All the other rafts had people all dry and sitting comfortably while us lot were all arms and legs flailing around absolutely soaking wet!!!Was amazing though and just gutted that we have no pictures of it. Its burned in our memories though as one of the best days ever! and we enjoyed huge pizzas that night at an Italian place, ooo and wine yum!!!Next stop, Loas.
Over and out! x x x
