Our Practice Run for Retirement
'Twas a week before Christmas and just back from their trip,
Bill was still working on the dive video clip
Our pictures were sorted and ready to choose
But with hundreds to look at there was no time to lose
Grand Cayman diving had been so much fun
Especially when matched with a warm tropical sun
Still tired from the trip, the blog hadn't been started
And with Christmas so near, the effort - half hearted
Shopping for gifts was well under way
With lots still to do before Christmas day
We started on cookies, cakes and some fudge
Ignoring the scale that would soon be our judge
On-line shopping made things easier than ever
But with plenty to buy it was still an endeavor
Our presents selected and now being shipped
We double-checked the list so no one was skipped
Even though the trailer had no room for a tree
Bill and Dessa went on a decorating spree
Lights and ornaments were hung from their ceiling
To ensure that our home had a festive feeling
Battling traffic we set off for the mall
To hear the Ho, Ho, Ho’ing of Santa’s call
Hunter was ready to see the big man,
But last year he was not really a fan
Santa was big and loud and quite hairy
Which Hunter found just a little too scary
This year would be different as now he was two
At least that’s what his parents hoped would be true
The moment arrived the red knee was ready
Hunter walked up, firmly clutching his teddy
He was still uncertain and on the verge of crying
But for the sake of his parents he was really trying
Turns out Santa isn’t scary but nice
So Hunter gave him a hug, not once but twice
Santa gave a big smile and with a tip of his cap
Ho Ho’d Merry Christmas and the rest of that ****
