Well, I'm not sure we're even spending 24 hours in Pennsylvaina - but here we are!
A lovely ride down the bikepath this morning...followed by two interesting bridge crossings. First, lots and lots of coal in train cars. Debbie says they are mined more west of here, then transported by rail, then on ships to go even further east. we have passed a few power plats since being along the lake, so that makes sense.
The second bridge was out. we portaged down and up a steep dirt area. I was worried about the train coming as we crossed the tracks, but no one else seemed to be!
what was nice about that was that the road after was VERY empty! A nice ride along the lake - kind of cliffy and lakeshore property mostly occupied by homes. We came upon Ann at a fruit stand after entering pennsyvania. She bought us each a peach! The fruit stand lady said presque island would be too full of people and the beaches really crowded.
She recommended a nearby beach, and sue went with me. We had a nice swim, though the rocks were slippery. It's funny how people come up to you and start talking - this time it was a retired guy...he told us a lot, not so memorable!
we got to erie still early in the day - since our ride was an easy 47 miles. Out to presque island. A cool diner, a wonderful bike path, amazingly pretty beaches! The fruit stand lady was right that it was crowded - and the heads up helped us know what to expect. However, it was not-to-be missed!
We stopped by the enviornmental center at the end. It was really artistic. Quite unusual way to display natural history type things.
I'm sleepy after a sunny day and our champagne toast. Ready for 91 miles tomorrow!
