after about a week of constantly travelling, speaking spanish and not lashing (much) at all, sucre was a perfect place to chill out for a couple of days with a few beers and get some sleep. its a really nice city - nothing like other bolivian cities, loads of clean white colonial buildings with nice squares and nice trees and other nice stuff. its not too high up either so no altidude effects and not freezing cold at night, perfect. also met two new mates - jess and jule from england/germany, so was awesome to speak a bit of english for a change! they had been down the mines the previous day and hadnt had a shower either, so it didnt matter too much that i was really smelly. yessss. also they turned out to like beer almost as much as me, so basically spent a couple of days wandering round, then going to the pub to drink beer, play cards and eat steak sandwiches. and there wasnt really anything else to do in sucre, so didnt feel pressured to do anything "cultural," ideal. saw an independent film about the mines in potosi one night, quite harrowing, especially having been down there myself. luckily had a nice steak sandwich afterwards and found some drunk australians to entertain us which soon cheered us up, as did the bottle of port which we decided to buy for some reason. mistaaake.
not much else to report from sucre really, was thinking of going to santa cruz de la sierra to see the che guevara stuff (he was killed by the cia in a school about 3 hours from there), but decided i didnt really have time as its like 16 hours from sucre and would have had to come all the way back again after, will have to leave that for next time! also the girls were going straight to la paz, so decided to go with them. when waiting for the bus for some reason we had to check in our bags upstairs then they lowered them down to the bus platform with a hook and piece of rope, along with loads of huge boxes which i think contained post to be transported to la paz, was quite funny whenever someone stood a bit too close to the bus and suddenly a huge box would drop down from above and almost take their head off. thats bolivian logic for you, apparently the most efficient method for getting luggage onto a bus. anyway, onwards and upwards.....
