This is technically a travel blog system, and essentially that's what I'm doing writing a blog as I travel, commenting on the things I see, things people bring to my attention and things in the news. It's generally going to be a place where my general understanding an views will be expressed and a place where hopefully, views will be exchanged frankly, honestly and without prejudice.
Those of you who know me will know that my life is a divided one, for those who don't know, my family live in Canada, whilst I have stayed here to be with my Mrs. It's been a rough couple of years, but this year, things will be very different.
Jayne and I are to leave the UK at the end of march, and are of to Canada for the next 6 months, at least, it has to be done. Why now though? Well, that brings me onto the what will always be an important subject of this blog, Broken Britain, and that word again, prejudice.
Somebody very wise (a South Park character) once said that "it's either ALL funny, or NONE of it is." I couldn't agree more. However in this current climate it appears that it depends on who you are, and what position you in, as to whether you can make that joke, or jibe.
Flicking through the channels the other day and I happened to pause for a second on loose women. "I hate men" one of the middle aged witches stated, quite proudly I might add. Which is fine, I'm not offended, I doubt any men are, but does that make it okay that she can say that, jus because most men won't blink an eye? Most men won't blink an eye because 'hating' men is acceptable, and as the loose women audience agreed, quite funny.
But let's look at the reverse. Keys & Gray said something daft about a female official made some crude jokes, Gray got sacked, Keys jumped before being pushed and they are the most hated men in the world all of a sudden.
Guys made crude and rude jokes all the time. People like Rio Ferdinand don't help the situation either, tweeting their contempt for Keys & Gray, calling them 'stupid dinosaurs' and waxing lyrical about women being respected. Like he never tells a sexist joke, or never gave a team mate stick about a one night stand! You really expect us to believe you Rio?
Does anybody really believe Keys & Gray hate women??? Does anybody really believe these two married men even dislike women? Because I don't! Not for a second.
Ricky Gervais said in his latest stand up that "sick jokes are told with a pre-formed understanding that neither party is actually like that." Makes perfect sense to me! Like Ricky said, "I wouldn't go up to a known pedophile and say, 'Here, you'll like this more than anyone'" A good point well made.
You'd think from the reaction that Keys and Gray are convicted Rapists talking about how much they hate women. When, in fact, they were jus two well respected, knowledgeable and reasonable blokes who were stung because they shared a private joke. Even if they were serious and didn't want a female linesman in the game, shouldn't they be allowed to say so?
I am no sexist, I have the upmost respect for women and what they have to deal with in what is and always will be a mans world, BUT, I don't think there should be a female linesman.
I don't think there is any need essentially. There is enough money in football for them to recruit enough men to cover all the games, so why do we need a woman? After all it's a competitive, aggressive mens contact sport. What happens when Miss Masey makes a decision, like disallowing a goal, and the players react furiously as they understandably do, then what? Should she be treated differently because she's a woman? Or should Wayne Rooney get right in her face and call her 'a stupid c**t' like he has to male assistants?? Or would that result in a sterner punishment than the none he has recieved for his abuse of a male linesman?? Surely that's the issue here, women being treated differently to men, but surely they wouldn't want to just like men, after all, it's okay to hate men.
