Perth, where do I start.... 2 amazing weeks!!! Sadness filled me when I left this city. Huge part of the 2 weeks were filled up with socials - catching up with faces from my past and spending time with loved ones!!!
I got to Perth in the middle of the night (still owe Rupal for that one!!! lol)
My first welcome to the Perth way of life was a picnic at the beach, we went to City Beach - the clear blue waters of the Indian Ocean and the white sand.... watching sunset as we had dinner. People with picnics and BBQs around us, others part of exercise clubs on the sand or surfing clubs practicing on the water. I was amazed at how cold the water on the western shore is!!! This was an amazing and relaxing evening, followed by coffee at the Dome at Scarborough beach.
The view of the Perth skyline at night from Kings Hill was amazing, my first good look at the City scape!! My first outing off the Perth mainland was to Rottnest Island. Rupal, Mayank, Ashish, Nikhil and I set off early Sun morning. Upon getting to the island form Freemantle harbour, we got the hop and hop off bus that took us around the island, cycling was the other option, but there was just Ashish and me up for that option so bus it was!!! (cars are not allowed here). Our first stop on the island was a pristine beach where Ashish and Mayank braved the waters. The beaches were amazing and the water was so clear!!! After here we went around the island and went for luch. Here we managed to spot the legendary islanders - the Quokka, they are a cute marsupial and wee mistaken to be huge rats (hence the name of the Island!!!). After lunch we made our way to The Basin which was a 2 km walk, a highly recommended swimming spot. Here I braved the waters too, not nearly as nice as the first beach stop but it was not bad!!! We made our way to the ferry drop point and whiled away the time at Dome.
During the week wandered around the Perth City and made a trip out to Freemantle. It is a quaint little town. Ashish volunteered to be my tour guide for the day. We took the train into Freo. Our first stop was the Freemantle prison, a fully operational prison till 1990. We took the prison tour, where we were shown around the prison and told abt prison life and history....it was quite morbid but very interseting!!! From here we went to the Shipwreck Gallery where we saw items retrieved from shipwrecks along the west coast and a partially restored wreck over 300 yrs old - very interesting. by this time we were starving and so headed for dinner along the harbour to the Little Creatures microbrewery where we had the pleasure of sampling their wares and I was introduced to the wood oven pizzas of Australia!! The view of the harbour was amazing... by the time we finished there was not any time to visit any museums, we walked up to the Round House and enjoyed the view of the Ocean. Then slowly made our way back home.
South West
The following weekend we went away down south for a long weekend. Friday evening we headed to Busselton which was where we were staying for the next 2 nights. We went via Bunbury where we went up the Lookout Tower and saw the aerial view of Bunbury. We got to Busselton by eve and prepared dinner and made plans for the next day.
A bright and early start on Sat and our first stop was the Jewel Caves. We had a tour around the caves having to scramble around to look at the limestone formations that defy gravity...the stalagmites, stalactites, shawl formations, pendulites....was breathtaking. After our morning warm up around the caves we headed further south to Augusta- a rustic little town. We got to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse and walked around it, a very bright and sunny day but the winds were so cold!!! This is the point where the Indian Ocean and South Sea meet. From here we started heading north doing the loop along Margaret River stopping along the way at the Berry farm, Chocolate factory, candy cow sweet shop, Pallandri's Vineyards, Olive Oil soap factory, Nuts and Cereal factory and Simmo's Icecreamery where I had the pleasure (?!?) of seeing the ice cream eating emu! We went through Dunsborough, quick tour and made our way back to Busselton. Played pool for a while, had dinner and played cards before calling an end to the day. The next day was a more relaxed start and we went to the Busselton jetty. It is 1.8km long and is the longest jetty in the southern hemisphere (?)... we walked the length of the jetty which was teeming with people. Got back and went for a swim until we spotted some tiny stingers. Then headed to Mandurah. We went on a boat tour cruise, there was no other passengers so we had the boat all to ourselves. Saw the multi million dollar houses, the canal ways and boats, got the histoy of the toan and along the way had some dolphins come out to say hello!!! Then headed back to Perth exhausted after a fun and exciting weekend.
Last few days in Perth were spent catching up with friends and family. Went to Hillary's Boatyard, Mindarie Marina and got to see Kangaroos at the park - was so excited as this was the first time I'd seen wild Kangaroos!!!!!!
Very sadly my 2 weeks in Perth came to quick end!!! Onwards to the next adventure in the Northern Territory
