This place is a cross between Gilly Coopers "Polo" and a Charles Darwin series on evolution. What is it with men in jodhpurs anyway? Even the moist unattractive specimen Becomes less so donned with riding boots and a wip!
We chose to spend Labour Day public holiday weekend in Glenworth Park, an outdoor adventure and camping facility. Famous for its 200 + working horse farm and 3000 acres it is advertised as a tranquil escape from the city - only an hours drive from Sydney. If tranquil is what you call birds squawking, chirping, tweeting, screeching and gurgling all night (and i mean all night, god knows when these things sleep), heavy farm vehicles starting work at 5am and galloping horses sounding like they are inches away from your head from around 6am then yes, this is the most tranquil place on earth!
Seriously though, it is so pretty and so far we are having an ace time and are thoroughly enjoying the outdoors and what it has to offer. Last night we had 12 hours sleep, even if slightly interrupted!! 8-8, yep we were in bed by 8pm after a bottle of red and tinned ravioli!
The Gilly Cooper analogy is obvious but why a series on evolution I hear you ask. Well I have decided that the outdoors and camping in general does something to the male species and takes them back over 200,000 years to their primate cousins behaviour. Man is obsessed at finding the best pitch to set up camp, done. Man sources wood for fire, done. Man chops wood for fire, done. Man makes fire, done. Man catches fish and yabbies to cook on fire, done. Man is incapable of using the toilet which is 2 mins walk away and marks his territory around the camp, done. And what I realised on four occasions last night as I woke to what I thought in my dream was the lovely sound of a waterfall, this is not just my man - nope, they are all at it!!!
Anyway after a 20k kayaking session yesterday with a pub stop half way and a half days fishing today we have horse riding to look forward to tomorrow - as with most activities we attempt Tim has warned me that he is a dynamo on a horse, having owned lots when they lived in Cornwall and has even ridden unbroken ponies! But again as always with a waver in there - "mind you I haven't ridden one for 20 years so I may be a bit rusty", I'm looking forward to a Thomas vs Hulme canter race tomorrow! Although to be fair he smashed me in the kayak race yesterday!!
