Chiang Mai has bought luxury and pain, arrived on the sleeper train to a lovely hotel, with a double room ensuite all for the bargain price of 4 pounds a night! explored a little but it was so hot i chilled at the hostel most of the afternoon. Went down to the sunday markets which were so nice, along the river and lit up and peacful, and cheaper than bangkok! Had an early night as picked up for trekking the next morning! my group consisted of 12 english girls all my age (including one exactly my age!) We went to a market to get the food, then onto the elephant trekking! Ashley and I were on the biggest elephant and we named him Harry for the day! It was really starnge as your whole body moves with it, but he was very sure footed, even in the water! We did some walking, past a beautiful waterfall, and to a hilltribe village where we camped for the night. We slept in a wooden hut on the boards and it was very painful but first we were cooked a thai red curry which was great, and sat around the campfire with the children from the local school dancing and singing! the next day was down to just 8 of us, and we went to another hilltribe village for lunch and we all got matching bracelets. We camped at a waterfall, which we also used as a shower until the rains came! had thai green curry and out legendery guide mr p taught us tricks with matches. This morning after only a 2 hour hike, we boarded bamboo rafts and glided along, woth elephants and butterflies all up the sides it was beuatiul! Arrived home from the trekking in the mountains to the luxury of a hotel, matresse and shower!
