The day started slowly with the Beijing traffic outside our hotel window testing their horns. Up a dressed we headed to the subway. My bag went through the x-ray machine for safety in the subway (the sign says).
Arriving at Beijing Zoo we brought our tickets, including passes to see the Pandas (which Beverley really wanted to see). Walking around the zoo we saw a range of animals. We found the monkeys swinging from branches and eating what they could find. We came across the Giraffe house and stayed to watch them feed and the Baby Giraffe bounced around its mother. Taking pictures we headed to see Zebras followed by the bears. Tigers (including a white tiger) stalked their jungle enclosures.
The Pandas are very well looked after. We saw one sitting on a platform and hide under a paw when we started to take pictures. Beverley brought a panda cuddle toy.
We enjoyed the visit to the zoo. It allowed us to see the animals and get some great pictures. We just didn't like the other people (who were rude and spat - even insde), children and parents ignored the signs to not bang on glass and not to feed the animals.
We tried to see Tiananmen Square but because of the military parade it was closed along with the Forbidden City. Walking along the side and back of the Forbidden City. People sat outside small shops while soldiers marched a long the street, as preparations took place for the Parade. Beijing feels like an ageing city with large roads full of traffic.
For dinner we ate out at an Italian restaurant. Enjoying salad and 2 large pizzas. After directing a taxi back to the hotel we rested and watched a film before bed.
