Hanoi, Vietnam
Hi guys
We tried to do a blog for India but the site kept crashing so we're starting from Vietnam where we are now...
Hope you're all well and its not too wet in England!
Just thought we'd send you a quick update since we moved onto SE Asia...
Having stayed in Goa for a few days we realised it wasn't quite the relaxing break we were hoping for! Lovely place but still a bit hectic and we got harassed as we were two of about ten tourists. Saw some lovely beaches and towns and then decided we were both ready to move on! Ended up booking a plane to Mumbai that afternoon and then stayed a night there which was an absolute nightmare! We stupidly decided to leave the hotel and traipse the streets looking for an internet cafe...biggest mistake of our lives!! Both wanted to cry and by the time the morning came we were screaming to get out!
So glad we've seen India and had some amazing times visiting some beautiful monuments and beaches but it was quite a challenging way to start our trip to say the least!
Got an early flight via Singapore where we had to wait for 16hours - best airport in the world if you have to wait around and was everything we'd hoped for in an airport - FREE Cinema, gym, internet, great American sports pub where we enjoyed a big fat burger! Even had a live jazz band to keep us entertained! (and they sang to us personally!)
Arrived in Vietnam on Friday afternoon and knew immediately that we would be able to relax and get into the swing of things... so the highlights have been:
- Luxury hotel for next to nothing! (free from mosquitos...talking of which Betty's foot has made a full recovery for all of you that were concerned!)
- Going out and meeting some funny characters, drinking o the streets - pints of nice beer for 22 p...cant go wrong!
- Met some guys on a tour and ended up at some floating club called 'soreass'...absolutely annihilated - needless to say neither of us have a clue where it was or how to get back there unfortunately. Next day we were meant to be picked up at 7.30am to go on a three day boat tour round Halong Bay, though got woken up at 7.45 still passed out at getting in at 5am only to find out there was a whole bus waiting for us!
- Halong Bay was absolutely amazing - a world heritage site- cruised around over 1000 islands on a boat for three days, fitting in kayaking, bike riding, exploring caves and visiting monkey island... met some nice people that we'll probably see again throughout the trip.
- Just got back to our lovely hotel from the trip having finally got a touch of colour - first time we've really been able to relax in the sunshine!
Vietnams an amazing place, would definitely recommend it to anyone, going out for a nice meal now and then off to see the WATER PUPPET SHOW!!! Meeting Michelle tomorrow from the airport, little does she know we've got a bit of a busy week coming up travelling south through the country starting on an overnight bus tomorrow (its also a bit rainy down there so not sure if she's going to be best pleased, but she's got 6 weeks to get a tan if that's what she's after!)
Our next update will be from the three of us at some point in the near future!
Will get some more pictures up soon...keep an eye out!
Love you all, speak to you soon!!
