Hello from Chiang Mai. We took a bus from Mae Sot which is the border town with Burma up to Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand for a bit of a cultural excursion. You might have thought we (and possibly you) had seen enough temples but there are quite a few about. Chiang Mai is also quite a good city just to hang out and explore. It also runs a range of self improvement courses but who needs that? ;) We started exploring the city by bicycle and mainly just explored the intricacies of the one way system so we decided we would make better progress on a motorbike. It was great. The open road, exhaust fumes blowing in your hair. We drove up to a cool temple on a winding road around the side of a hill just to break us in to the handling etc. We so tough. (Drove about 25km with regular back seat instruction). Went to the cinema last night out at the Airport Plaza. The movie was good but was a bizarre experience coming out and not finding Streatham High Road waiting for us. Had we looked around and seen only Thai people sitting next to us and no one chatting on their mobiles ('Ya get me..init..') we might have had some clues. The shock has won off and as much as we miss Streatham Odeon, I think we will cope. Off to Bangkok on the night train. Well, night and day train 15.40 departure, 06.05 arrival. That must be one of the longest train journeys for distance ever. That's the conservative estimate too. Will write more later and update from things we have missed, Hope all are well. Keep in touch. Paul and Betty.
