Yesterday, my lab had the annual Day Out where we all go do something fun together. We rode for 1.5 hours to Tilburg and went to an indoor entertainment center where we played indoor soccer and western games. The western games were riding the mechanical bull, shooting ducks, gun duels, and poker. It was funny to me to be doing these games in the Netherlands! I was nominated to go first on the mechanical bull since I was from Mississippi. I tried to tell them that I had never even seen a mechanical bull before, but no one cared. Not surprisingly, I was not particularly good at it. I lasted only about 30 seconds (although some people lasted less than 10, so I wasn't the worst!). It was actually a lot scarier than I thought it would be. When I fell off, I also hit my knee really hard on the metal block under the bull. I limped the rest of the day and am still having a little trouble walking even today! I have a huge bruise. One girl, Meike, is a horse rider, and she was great on the bull. She lasted the whole 2 minutes! After that, we took a tour of the La Trappe brewery, which is an actual monastery and still operated by monks. It was interesting, although the tour was in Dutch so I didn't really know much of what was going on. After that, we came back to Nijmegen and all had dinner together at Station-Oost. It was a good (and long) dinner. We didn't finish until almost 11:00 pm! So, it was a very long but fun day.
