Hello! You are reading the first of what will (hopefully) become many posts about my year in Uganda volunteering with Project Trust.
On the 31st of August, I will be driving to Edinburgh to catch a flight to London to begin my journey! From London, myself and eighteen other volunteers will be flying for over ten hours to Nairobi, and then from there we will fly to Entebbe, Uganda. I have just TWELVE DAYS to go, and I still have an insane amount to do, including buying pretty much everything. Leaving everything to the last minute is the story of my life, but I'll get there!
It's been a year since I went to the Hebridean Island of Coll for selection, and time has passed so quickly. I remember thinking that it was a stupidly long time until I would be leaving, yet here I am, just about to go. It's been a good year, but this next one is going to be even better.
In Uganda, I'll be volunteering as an English teacher alongside my partner Fern, at the 'Hope for Youth' project in the Mukono District. 'Hope For Youth' is a primary school with just over three hundred pupils, with ages ranging from as young as four, to kids only a couple of years younger than myself! It's going to be a challenge (it's so scary to think I'll be teaching important life skills to kids), especially since the school has next to no resources, but I look forward to it. I reckon that this year's going to change me for the better, and I can't wait to become the person that my friends and family will meet when I return home.
Uganda; here I come!
