This past day and and half have just been crazy! Spent friday night talking to all the other backpackers in our hostel and loads of them had been travelling for like 5 years but they were running out of money now and were very jealous of us just starting our trip so they got us so so excited we couldn't wait to go into the centre of bangkok the next day and start to get things going, which turned out to be a bit of a nightmare. We had to get this busboat thing which doesn't even stop for you at the pier you just have to jump in like action man which Joe loved. Then we had a crazy ride in a tuktuk and ended up at some buddha which was like 200ft tall, it was huuuuge. We didn't end up seeing much, it's quite a hassle when you don't really know where you're going, so we ended up on Khao San Road, which we hated. It's supposed to be like backpacker central and we managed to pick up a few cheap bits and bobs but it was far too touristy and it was irritating seeing english people being so offensive to all the thai people. So we headed back to the hostel and when we got there the owner Dave asked us if we wanted to go to the sky tower with another couple (who weren't actually a couple) and obviously we said yes as the other option was watching a spurs match with some football crazy cockney...We ended up asking the two others girls from our dorm to come with us and it was so cool! Its the tallest building in Bangkok and its got like 80 floors and when you get to the top you go out onto this revolving balcony and you can see for miles and miles to the horizon, it was amazing! We got one free cocktail each and popcorn all night so we bummed as much as that as we could (TEH! Jesse) watched the fireworks and went to go back to the hostel which turned out to be ALOT harder than we thought :/. Apparently you can't just get one elavator down to the ground floor and some of them only have like floor 8, 17 and 77 or something, then we ended up in the carpark for about 14 floors but we EVENTUALLY got to the ground floor and got a taxi. It was supposed to only be a short drive but we offered him 100baht because we had to squash 6 of us in (there is no such thing as health and safety in thailand) note SUPPOSED. We must have been in that taxi for an hour. We wanted to be at 1 Sukhumvit, which we thought was pretty simple and he took us to 101 and then down to god knows what street. So after asking for help from other thai people and speaking to his crazy wife on the phone he finally was like "OOOOOHHH ONE!!!!" as if we'd been talking in code the whole time, I think the index finger up is one even on venus :/ so we refused to pay him what was on the meter (250) and gave him 130 instead, he was not impressed. So when we fiiinally got back we played so card betting horse game for hooours with overpriced raspberry vodka and then passed out in our beds. Now we're waiting for our bus to come and take us to Koh Samui for a bit of beach paradise...in the monsoon season >.<
