Today we went to see Old Faithful early in the morning before there were too many people around We made use of the continuous shooting mode on the camera again. It was fun to see, but not our favorite thing we have seen at Yellowstone. On our way to hike we saw a traffic jam and when we went over to check it out, everyone was looking at a bison far from the road, up on a hill.At the time, we thought this was a pretty big deal. After tomorrow, we knew it wouldn't be. For our hike today we did a 3 mile hike up to the Mystic Falls from the Biscuit Basin. We were able to have a great view of the park and could even see Old Faithful going off again from our overlook. Next, we walked around the Midway and West Thumb Geyser Basin. The colors were amazing, but the heat of the springs was hard to walk by in addition to the hot weather. We were exhausted so we checked into our new campsite which was entirely on an incline. Not so fun. We found out also that this campsite did not have showers either. So we actually paid $3.25 each for a shower at a different campground. Funny that we are willing to pay that much after two days of no showers, I wonder what we would pay after next week of seven days of no showers after our backpacking trip!
- Found out the campground didn't have showers, either, so we drove to another campground to shower. For dinner we made our first campfire and cooked hot dogs and marshmallows. The fire wasn't as fun when the air temp made it hard to even want to be near the fire. After we noticed some fairly fresh bison patties about five feet from out tent, a bison appeared after dinner about 50 yards from our campground. We wondered why no one else seemed to notice. We found out from the campers next door that a bison had walked through their campsite that morning while they ate breakfast. Little nervous about getting up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom if there might be a bison chilling outside our tent.
